Happy December! We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and we know everyone’s looking ahead to our winter recess. We know the upcoming weeks can become quite overwhelming as families prepare for family gatherings, special travels, and perhaps some shopping outings in preparation for special traditions. As much as we’d all like to feel that we are organized and well-prepared for the upcoming weeks, each family deals with the stress of the holidays in different ways. Oftentimes, children fall victim to later bedtimes, hectic trips to the store for that last item, and sometimes experience first-hand the financial stress that plagues many families during this time of the year. Routines often fall to the wayside along with daily reading practices, consistent homework support, and even family meals. Please make a concerted effort to see that the rush and stresses of the holiday season do not seep into your child’s daily routine and need for consistency. During the month of November and December, we collected non-perishable food items to donate to families in our school community, as well as had an Angel tree event that was sponsored by the New Hope Road Church Alliance. A big thank you to everyone who gave food items to support our families. The event was a huge success. Our school community always demonstrate generosity and kindness. We have a wonderful Wilburn family. As you know, we completed the first half of the school year for all students. Thank you for participating in parent-teacher conferences and communicating with your child’s teacher so that you know the academic expectations and performance of your child(ren). If you have any concerns about your child’s academic progress, please reach out to his or her teacher or contact the school’s administrative team. Report cards went home with track 1 students on December 4th and will go home for track 4 students on December 11th. There should not be any surprises with your child’s grades, as our parent-teacher conferences offered the opportunity to discuss academic expectations and performance. Finally, winter break runs from Monday, December 18 to Friday, January 1. And yes, that means we’re not back to school until Monday, January 4th (Track 1) and Monday, January 25th (Track 4). Please take this time to enjoy your family, read a good book, play some games and just relax. When we return in January, please be sure to send your child to school with warm clothes, hats, scarves, and gloves. We have outdoor recess, even when it’s cold outside. We value exercise and physical movement. Fondly, Lutashia Dove Principal Upcoming Events!
