Dear Families, Welcome to Wilburn Elementary! We are excited about the upcoming school year. We are proud of the high quality staff we have here and the commitment they bring to Wilburn. For the past few years we've been working on more consistent and meaningful collaboration with families, and the community, on behalf of our students. We hope to continue the collaboration with all of you. We will also continue with our focus on high quality instruction through the lenses of Equity & Social Justice. We are committed to providing the best educational experiences possible. Our teachers will teach high quality lessons, guiding your student on a path that will give him/her the skills necessary for a productive future. Our focus this year continues to be English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science/Social Studies. It is our goal to have all students reading on grade level by the end of Kindergarten. We can only do that with your help and support. I would like to encourage each parent/guardian to stay active in your child's education. I certainly realize that many of you lead busy lives, and it is often difficult to volunteer at school. However, taking just a few minutes in the evening to read to your child, talk with your child about school, or simply see that your child is organized for the next school day can have great benefits. We hope you will join our staff in continuing the standard of excellence we have set for our school. Together we will ensure success for every child who enters our door. Thank you for your support and committment to our students! Lutashia Dove, Principal Messages from the School Nurse My name is Julie Doyle and I am the school nurse at Wilburn Elementary School. My job as school nurse is to help your child be at school every day despite having a medical condition. I can help you apply for insurance, find a doctor, understand your child’s medications, arrange for your child to take medication at school and provide information to teachers so they understand your child’s medical condition. Regular attendance is the KEY to school success! Please call or email me if your child has a medical condition that might impact his/her attendance and school success. Attention parents of Kindergarteners! Welcome to Wilburn! I am so excited to get to know your children! Just a reminder that all incoming Kindergarten children must have a Kindergarten Health Assessment (well-child check-up.) Kindergarteners must also meet the State of North Carolina’s immunization requirements. If you have any questions about either the Kindergarten Health Assessment (KHA) or immunization requirements please call me right away! Any child who has not turned in the KHA form and immunization record within 30 days of his/her first day of school will be excluded from school per North Carolina State Law.
